Is Grammarly AI?

Grammarly uses AI along with custom-designed rules and patterns to edit your texts and also help you write and rewrite. Like other AI-powered writing tools, Grammarly trains its AI models on massive amounts of data while also relying on human feedback to be able to provide accurate and useful corrections and suggestions.

Grammarly grammar checker

Whether subscribed to the free or paid premium plan, Grammarly users are required to create an account to use its grammar checker. The free version of Grammarly’s grammar checker offers basic corrections and suggestions, whereas the premium version offers a more comprehensive analysis.

Although the grammar checker supports multiple English dialects, it is not multilingual. Grammarly can only correct texts written in English.

Additionally, Grammarly’s grammar checker sometimes misses errors. For example, in the image found a few paragraphs above, Grammarly detected most mistakes but failed to correct the capital “C” in “Century” and add a comma after “before this,” which would help indicate the use of an introductory phrase.

Grammarly plagiarism checker

Grammarly’s plagiarism checker scans your writing to detect plagiarized text. The free version simply states whether your writing contains unoriginal work, whereas the premium version highlights specific sentences and provides further information.

Grammarly’s plagiarism checker can only check for plagiarized content in English.

Grammarly citation generator

Grammarly’s online citation generator requires users to input essential details (author’s name, book title, year of publication, etc.) into the designated field. This makes using the citation generator complicated and time-consuming, as other tools, such as QuillBot,  automatically generate citations based on partial information.

Additionally, Grammarly’s online citation generator can only create citations in APA, MLA, and Chicago style.

Grammarly paraphrasing tool

Grammarly’s free online paraphrasing tool allows for rewording up to 500 characters and only offers a single standard rephrasing option. Users who have signed up for a Grammarly account have access to more customized and detailed paraphrasing options.

How much is Grammarly Premium?

Grammarly is one of the most expensive writing assistants on the market. Its most popular plan is the premium plan, which costs $30 a month when billed monthly and $144 when billed annually.

Grammarly also offers business and enterprise plans, as well as free plans that provide limited access to its tools and features.

Grammarly alternatives

There are other, more affordable writing assistants on the market that offer similar features and capabilities. QuillBot, for example, offers a wide range of tools, including a grammar checker, plagiarism checker, citation generator, translator, AI detector, and many more.

Many of QuillBot’s services are available for free, with the option to upgrade to the Premium plan, which costs $8.33 per month when billed annually ($99.95), $13.33 per month when billed semi-annually ($79.95), or $19.95 per month when billed monthly.

With its multilingual support, QuillBot is especially suited for writers who work and write in multiple languages.
